So far, Idaho has been the only state to enact a so-called “ abortion trafficking ” law. Yet even as legal questions linger in the Idaho case, other states like Tennessee are moving forward with implementing their own versions. Tennessee law bans abortion throughout all stages of pregnancy but contains exemptions for very narrow instances for saving the life of a mother. On the eastern side of the state, a clinic has relocated to Virginia after operating along the Tennessee border for years.

Evva Hanes, a North Carolina farm woman who took a centuries-old Moravian cookie tradition that she had learned by watching her mother bake on a wood-fired stove and turned it into a family business, one that now ships out millions of fragile, crispy Moravian cookies every year, died on June 22 at her home in Clemmons, N.C. She was 90. The cause was complications of brain cancer, said her grandson Jedidiah Hanes Templin, who is president of the Moravian Sugar Crisp Company, better known as Mrs. Hanes’ Hand-Made Moravian Cookies. Before the American Revolutionary War, some left for Pennsylvania, taking with them a recipe for a spice-heavy ginger cookie called Lebkuchen. They kept moving, and in the mid-1700s began a religious community on a large tract of land in North Carolina that would become the city of Winston-Salem. The Southern food scholar John Egerton wrote that the North Carolina Moravians, like the Pennsylvania Dutch — whom he called “their theological and gastronomical kin” — have maintained a strong baking tradition that is hundreds of years old.

Bill Lee signed a law dissolving independent police oversight boards in the state. Bill Lee signed legislation this week dissolving independent oversight boards meant to investigate police departments in the state. The law will replace the community-led boards with "review committees" that will be comprised of members appointed by a mayor. Nashville residents voted to form one of these boards in 2018, a year after the shooting of Jocques Clemmons. Residents have spoken out against the changes to the committee, and plan to push back against the new law, WZTV reported.
Towns said the lawmakers could have until early spring, otherwise, to develop and fine tune any proposals that emerge from Nichols' death.
